Main Attractions

From Rani Jhari’s perspective, the Western Ghats can be viewed as their alternative or completely different from theirs’ Rani Jhari has a very good view of the beautiful scenery that surrounds it, such as trees, sugarcane, and…you guessed it! The area’s abundant vegetation creates an attractive backdrop to the mountain, as the site of Rani Jhari is shrouded in mist. So, if you want to take a tough hike with lots of dirt and rocks, then Rani Jhari is definitely the perfect destination!

In addition to the tough hiking roads leading to the viewpoint(s) themselves, Rani Jhari has a very rough trail, and the only way to really experience Rani Jhari is on foot. You’ll park your vehicle in the parking lot and hike to the viewpoint(s), where, once you get there, you will be able to see the incredible views from the top!

Best time for the visit

Rani Jhari has always had a very temperate climate throughout the year; whether it be snow or fog, it always has a large amount of low-level cloud cover on top of it. Each of Rani Jhari’s seasons is a type of festival for Rani Jhari, each season has that elegance that pleases Rani Jhari’s ey. Yet the beauty of each of the four seasons has not been discussed as much as their value. You can see the display of beauty from November to May, on both sides of the rain.

When you visit during the rainy months, do not be afraid; when you come to Rani Jhari you will have a nice view of the rain. Remember to bring your Raincoats and Rain Gear with you!

Mullayanagiri should be on your list of activities to participate in while visiting Chikmagalur. It is one of the most established trekking sites in Karnataka. Mullayanagiri is the highest peak in Karnataka, and it is part of the Baba Budangiri Hill chain. The peak rises to an elevation of 6330 ft, and provides a stunning view of Chikmagalur, and was named after the Mullappa Swami Temple, which is located at the summit.

How to get there?

If you travel from Bangalore to Rani Jhari, the journey will take about 5 hours 13 minutes via Kunigal to Hassan, then to Mudigere.

If you travel from Pune, the travel time is approximately 14 hours 7 minutes along the Kolhapur, Hubli and the Chikmagalur route.

From Goa, the travel time is approximately 9 hours 4 minutes via Karwar to Gokarna then Murudeshwar Road.

If you are planning to fly to the Chikmagalur District, Mangalore International Airport is the nearest. From there, you will need to take a taxi to reach Chikmagalur which is about 120 kms from Mangalore, and will take approx. 3.5 hours to reach Rani Jhari.

Things to consider:

When you plan to visit Rani Jhari in the monsoon season, bring your raincoats.

If you are visiting Rani Jhari in winter, you should bring your sweaters.

Leeches are common in Rani Jhari, so be sure to bring along an extra pair of socks.

An offroad vehicle means you have the comfort of having your feet off the ground while driving in Rani Jhari.
